Admissions 2024-25

Please see our admissions policy here.

At Howden School, we welcome all students, and places at the school are offered in an open and fair way. Our admissions process is delivered in-line with the Equality Act 2010, the School Admissions Code, the School Admission Appeals Code, the Human Rights Act 1998 and the School Standards and Framework Act 1998.

Admissions

Applications received relating to children with statements of special educational needs will be dealt with in accordance with the National code of Practice on Special Educational Needs. Where a school is named in a child’s statement of educational special needs, the school has a duty to admit the child.

Applications for Year 7

If you want to apply for a place in Year 7 at Howden School for entry in September, you will need to nominate us as your preferred school on the common application form and send it completed to your home local authority, or complete the online application.

Our normal school admissions arrangements apply when a child is transferring from primary school to secondary education at the end of Year 6. Please visit your local authority website for more specific information on how to apply.

Pupil Admissions Number

The number of places available is determined by the capacity of the school, and is called the Pupil Admissions Number (PAN).

The PAN is 150.

We have six feeder primary schools which are:

Howden's Feeder Primary Schools
Barmby on the Marsh Primary School
Bubwith Primary School
Eastrington Primary School
Gilberdyke Primary School
Howden Junior School
Newport Primary School

Appeals

Appeals for ‘in-year’ school admission requests are normally held within 30 school days of the date you appeal is received. You will be notified of the date of your appeal no later than ten school days before the appeal is due to take place.

Appeals for entry into Year 7 to start secondary school for the first time – what are called ‘normal’ admission requests – are usually held in the summer term after parents/ carers have been notified of the refusal of a school place, commonly in June and July.

Starting school in September 2025

For applications to start a secondary school for the first time in September 2025, the closing date for secondary applications is 31 October 2024. Once this date has passed, please contact the School Admissions team. Please see link below to the Citizens Portal, where you can make an application for Year 7 in September 2025.
