Careers
All students receive Careers Education Information Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) to prepare them for key transition points in Year 8 and Year 11 and as an important part of preparation for their future working life. Including advice and guidance about future choices and the development of employability skills. Our aim is to provide informative and impartial advice and guidance for all students.
In Years 7, 8 and 9 students will be taught a programme of Careers Education as part of their PSHE lessons and tutor sessions. In Year 8, students will be supported through the options process as they make the transition to Key Stage 4. There will be assemblies, meetings with parents and guidance booklets. Where required, students will have interviews with members of staff, which parents can attend, if they wish.
In Year 10, all students have the opportunity to participate in Work Experience, to help prepare them for their future working life. Assemblies and tutor work will also focus on careers education. In Year 11, all students will have a weekly Careers lesson to help them prepare for their transition to Post-16 courses and to prepare them for their future working life and careers. Some Year 9 and 10 students and all Year 11 students will also receive at least one face to face careers interview with a qualified and impartial careers advisor. Year 11 students will also have a mock interview with local employers or members of the local community.
The PSHE and Careers lessons will be supported by a range of educational visits and Deep Learning Day activities. Students will also have several opportunities to SEN and vulnerable students will have additional support to prepare them for their Year 8 and post-16 transitional point choices. Including; meetings with school staff, specialist careers advisors, meetings with parents and visits to colleges, where appropriate.

Business Engagement
A big part of the careers programme and careers experience for our young people at Howden School is engagement with local businesses. We are always interested in developing relationships within the local community and recognise this can be mutually beneficial. The expertise local businesses can offer broadens the information and experiences for our students and helps businesses become an employer of choice.
If you are a parent/carer or a local business that can support us with the delivery of our careers programme, then we would welcome you getting in touch with our Careers Lead, Miss Scott on cscott@howdenschool.net.
